An attack in Wereh village near Jos, Central Nigeria's Plateau State capital has left a soldier and at least two civilians dead according to local reports.

The attack in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, Dorowa community was suspected to have been carried out by Fulani militants.

They were said to have invaded the village at about 9:30pm when most of the villagers were asleep.

An unconfirmed number of people were reportedly wounded in the incident.

When contacted, Police Public Relations Officer of the State, Mathias Terna confirmed the incident but denied knowledge of any slain soldier.

"I don't know if a soldier died but I have been informed that former head of service, Da Moses Gwom died in the incident," he said.

He requested to report back as soon as he received details from the Divisional Police Officer of Barkin Ladi.
