Former unionist and Plateau's Kanke Local Government information aide, Godwin Bedir says his wish is to finish the race for the Chairmanship of the LGA as friends with his fellow aspirants.

Speaking shortly after picking his nomination form from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) office in Jos, Mr. Bedir, 34 vowed to give his all to the success of whoever wins the polls.

"My desire is that if eventually the people choose me, my colleagues will equally avail me their support," he said.

His ultimate goal is to see Kanke LGA progresses regardless of who is at the helm, he said.

Many elders of the locality who have commented on the forthcoming LG polls in the state have reechoed Bedir's cries.

One of such is former Chairman of the locality, John Gotau who feels leadership comes from God and should therefore not be seen as "do or die".

He vowed to support all those aspiring equally, calling for mutual respect and maturity among the aspirants in their campaigns.

Gotau's words appear to be a contradiction of reports making rounds that Bedir being his political godson would be imposed on the electorates by him.

"I am just one out of many voters and cannot decide the fate of an entire local government except to advice and canvass support for an individual at most," he stressed while addressing the aspirants in Jos.

"All of you aspiring are my children and I cannot support one person to ruin what God desires for others," Gotau added.

Bedir had himself made it clear that his ambition was hinged on his desire to serve his people not the influence or connections of others within the political space.

Bedir is the youngest aspirant for the Chairmanship position in the LGA, and one of the youngest in the state who is seen to represent the "not too young to rule" ambition of the youths in Nigeria.

His aspiration dates back to 2015 when the current state governor dissolved the LG structures in the state.

He had a year earlier stood for the seat of a councillor in the LGA where he lost at the primary elections.

Commentators believe him to be a courageous go-getter who is not deterred by circumstances in pursuing his goals.

His desire, he emphasizes is to bring his knowledge and experiences in unionism and other aspects of politics to bare in transforming the LGA.
