A Plateau village Chief, the Mishkagham Panyam, HRH, Engr. Aminu Derwam says he and his council have taken decisive steps to stop the sale and consumption of illicit drinks otherwise known as "goskolo" in the area.

Speaking at the 2018 Wus Cultural Festival of the Panyam people of Mamgu LGA, Plateau State, the royal father expressed the traditional council's concerns on the menace which has weakened the productivity of its youth.

"The traditional council will henceforth clamp down on not only consumers but the producers of illicit drinks," he said.

Engr. Derwam therefore called on government to enact "appropriate" laws against producers and consumers of such illicit drinks as well as their landlords to ensure a sound and productive society.

He equally craved the support of law enforcement agents to ensure that those found wanting are brought to book.

The Wus Cultural Festival which is thought to be the first in Mwagavul history is marked every year with lots of fanfare and cultural display.

This year's event which witnessed a large turn our of guests from all works of life featured freewill donations for the completion of the Panyam community multipurpose secretariat building project.
