There have been sounds of heavy gunfire around Dong village, a remote community near Jos Wild Life Park, Jos North LGA, Plateau State.

A resident of the community told MKB the gun blasts have persisted for hours believed to be a duel between security forces and attacking Fulani herdsmen.

The source who pleaded anonymity said securities had advised him to vacate along with other residents having received reports of a planned attack.

Security authorities have not commented on the situation as efforts to reach them as of publishing time were unsuccessful.

Dong community was recently attacked by suspected herdsmen with series of losses - human and economic recorded.

Some youths were reportedly arrested from the village by soldiers while trying to protect their homes from being razed down.

The development which attracted widespread condemnations followed the killing of some security personnel around the village by the attacking Fulani militia whom the Defense Headquarters described as heavily armed.

No Fulani herder has however been arrested in connection to the incident.
