The Plateau State Police Command yesterday said unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani  Herdsmen on Wednesday invaded a private residence in Kai village of Gashish district, killing four members of a family.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Tyopev Terna in a statement gave the names of the deceased as Dauda Mahan, 54, Mangai Agwom 46, Christian Mangai, 15 and John Mangai 10.

He however could not confirm the renewed attack yesterday in Kakuruk village, few meters away from Kai village where one man was reportedly killed by suspected Fulani herders.

Mr. Terna had earlier reported an attack in Hukke village, Bassa LGA on Sunday where four members of a family were killed.

Same Sunday, a failed attack on Christian worshippers in Vwak hamlet of Jol village, Riyom LGA left one killed, reports say.

It was gathered that earlier on Saturday, in a village of Arangai, in Mangu Local Government council, a meat seller, Baba Likita, was killed alongside two other men from Ampang West of the same Mangu council.

According to local media reports, there have been several other attacks in Kura Falls, B/Ladi LGA where four including a Muslim Hausa man were killed in an ambush last week Wednesday.

The suspected herders had made several other attempts to take down communities in Fan district, B/Ladi LGA and Irigwe Chiefdom, Bassa LGA but failed due to either rapid security response or fierce resistance by vigilant youths.

On Wednesday in Hukke village of Bassa LGA, the herders allegedly destroyed farm crops spread across over 2 hectares of farmland after failing in their mission to invade the village.

Bassa LGA has suffered several attacks since September 7, 2017.

The locals have initiated several peace processes but failed.

They have therefore as a last resort petitioned the Nigerian government and the Human Rights Commssion, it was learnt.

The Nigerian government is planning to establish cattle ranches in some States including Plateau to curb open grazing and the resultant clashes between farmers and herders.

Many commentators have kicked against the idea saying it is part of a plan to Islamize the country.
