Gunmen on Tuesday shot dead immediate past councillor representing Ambul Bargesh ward, in central Plateau's Bokkos Local Government Area.

Late Hon. Bature Wanang was reportedly shot near his residence in Bargesh village at about 6pm by the gunmen who are believed to have been trailing him.

A former legislative colleague of the slain lawmaker feared Hon. Wanang may have been targeted as part of a grand plan to eliminate all influential persons in the village.

"Two years ago, a prominent businessman, Mr. Peter Mandar was killed in the same village after several similar incidents before," he said.

No suspect has been arrested but the attack was believed to have been carried out by herdsmen.

Officials are however yet to comment on the incident.

Meanwhile, Tabbani village in Rabah Local Government Area of Sokoto State was reportedly attacked by armed men yesterday, resulting in the killing of a district head, Usman Mohammed, and 45 others.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the gunmen set the village ablaze and shot sporadically at fleeing villagers.

50 more people are reported to have been killed in different village raids by suspected herdsmen in Taraba and Adamawa States over the past 24 hours.

MKB had Monday night reported a raid in Lau LGA, Taraba State but could not issue details as it was still tracking them.

Official sources in Taraba however confirmed yesterday that the LGA had been under attack since last week Wednesday.

The sources however said as of yesterday morning, displaced villagers in the affected LGA had began returning home.
