Ideas rule the world, and in this jet age that the world is interconnected as McLuhan envisaged with the Global Village theory,it is pathetic and disgraceful that we in Nigeria are still holding on to archaic traditional practices that is not economically viable and disintegrates our social co-habitation as a nation.
We need to drop our weapons (Guns, machete, axe, swords, bow and arrows) and use our heads to find solutions to the challenge before us.
We need to drop our emotional weapons (Hate, intolerance, greed, ethnicity, tribal bigotry, religion) and put on our thinking caps.
The greatest wars were won on the roundtable, when men sat to draw a master plan guided by a philosophy.
We can't continue doing thesame thing and expect a change.
The pattern of attacks and mentality of the Plateau People can be summarized ;
(THE ENEMY ATTACKS-WE CRY-BLAME GOVERNMENT,BLAME POLITICAL PARTY,BLAME RELIGION,BLAME A PARTICULAR TRIBE,TAKE PICTURES SHARE ON SOCIAL MEDIA,WE BURY OUR DEAD,TAKE RELIEF MATERIALS TO IDP'S,USE IT AS POLITICAL CAMPAIGN AND WE GO TO SLEEP WAITING FOR THE NEXT ATTACK)
We use our data, our resources to front the plan of the perpetrators by showing them the benefits of their attacks (land grabbing, jihadist plan, ethnic cleansing) we never get to see or hear from the enemy, the only time we see or hear from them is when they attack.
The issue of farmer/herder conflict lingers on because we refuse to be proactive as a people and the lack of the political will on the side of the Government  to dare the obvious.
It is a fact that we cannot wake up one day and chase away all the Fulani Herdsmen that have been with us for ages and have integrated into our society.
It is a fact that there is migration from other African states of Herdsmen with their livestock in search of greener pastures due to adverse effect of global warming and drought.
It is a fact that in search for where to graze the Herders destroy crops of farmers that lead to conflict.
It is a fact that the warring factions have invested a lot in buying weapons to defend land, livestock, farm and property.
It is also a fact that mutual suspicion, quest for revenge on disputes ranging from cow rustling and destruction of farms renews tension and the sad part of loss of human lives that live eternal sorrows tears and agony on the part of those affected.
PLATEAU LAND IS SOAKED WITH INNOCENT BLOOD,AND THE BLOOD OF THE INNOCENT WANT JUSTICE.
The Way Out..
The Idea of Ranching that has been suggested by the Federal Government should be looked into with an open mind.
Plateau State Government stated that the state has the land to use for Ranching in Wase and Kanam local government area which will be an arrangement between the state and the federal Government and that no one will be forced to give up their lands as the Ranch in Wase and Kanan were lands gazetted and it is the Land belonging to the state.
Ranching is a good alternative to the open grazing that has done more harm than good.
We need more alternatives especially to those Herdsmen that will not buy the idea of living their homes to move to Wase and Kanam.
The ALTERNATIVE IS LIVESTOCK ALIMENTATION.
"livestock alimentation practice is the safest and most effective approach to resolving the attacks of herders on crop farmer in Nigeria. In simple terms, livestock alimentation practice involves a system of keeping animals within a confined space, and providing them with adequate nutritional and medical care without having to expose them to open grazing in the country side for pasture.
The proposed alimentation practice seeks to replicate the existing practices in poultry farming for cows, pigs, goats, and sheep among others. This will require a transformation of the existing cattle paddocks otherwise known as hoggo in Fulfulde or shinge in Hausa to feedlots. The alimentation practice or feedlot system of cattle breeding was successfully employed to resolve Tutsi/Hutu genocide in Rwanda.
The proposed policy has a strong potential to rouse a symbiosis between livestock herders and crop farmers as well as spur the emergence of a new economy at the grassroots.
In pursuing the livestock alimentation practice, government at every level would need to develop livestock-specific financing scheme and also provide subsidies as is done elsewhere in the world for agriculture. In addition, livestock-specific infrastructure would need to be put in place value chains in livestock breeding.
Indeed, massive public awareness campaign on livestock alimentation practice is required for the policy being advocated to be a success.
This is where the sustained partnership of the media and leaders of all relevant stakeholders including religious, traditional and interest groups becomes critical."Concerned Ron/Kulere group,2018.
CONCLUSION
While we engage constantly on the merits of Ranching peculiar to Plateau state with Wase and Kanam at the forefront of the Ranching site.
We have to root the idea if the livestock ALIMENTATION which should have a legal backing by the house of Assembly to make it a law that any herder and manager of livestock that does not explore the Ranch to be provided in Wase and Kanam and do not  confine his or her  livestock to their enclave or abode  should be punished with a heavy fine and penalty to serve as deterrent.
The whole idea is to put an end to open grazing where cows will be moving freely to graze, it is not only outdated but it is no longer Economically viable and sustainable.
Every civilized nation in the world and even African countries like Botswana have done away with the practice of  open grazing to a more Economically viable Ranching and Livestock ALIMENTATION(feedlots) to  ensure peace, progress and economical development that will put an end to these conflict that has led to the loss of many lives and properties.
