Plateau State People's Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship flag bearer, Jeremiah Useni says for a people to be prosperous and secured, Government must be proactive in matters of security.

Useni who is the incumbent Senator of Plateau South in a press statement yesterday faulted lack of good governance for the renewed sectarian violence in the state.

According to him, in addition to being proactive in protecting her people, government is expected to be proactive "at all times" in stopping a reoccurrence of the "evil menace."

He said, "For the citizens to be protected and to be prosperous, the government should be seen as being proactive in matters of security and to be protective of her people.

"The government should be proactive at all times to stopping reoccurrence of this evil menace.

" In a situation where government apparatus and the security agencies are allegedly seen to be aligning with a particular side of the divide is rather injustice to humanity and it's a call for the citizens to protect themselves which is not always the best."

The retired military General further demanded that security operatives should be neutral in the fight for a "peaceful" Plateau and the nation as a whole.

Sympathising with victims of the recent unrests in Jos the Plateau State capital, Mr. Useni called for peace among the different sociocultural groups in the state as the only means to societal development.

"The recent unrest in some parts of Jos North leaves one to wonder and ask questions if violence is the way to go: Does it bring development? If peace is the way to go, why won't we all give it a chance for a better plateau?" He wondered.

He also called on government officials to rise and do the "needful" by protecting the lives and properties of citizens in fulfillment of its oaths of office.
