A young Nigerian model, Maureen Macham has launched a charity programme for poor diabetes patients to mark this year's World Diabetes Day.

Miss Macham, 20 on Wednesday commenced what is expected to be an annual charity visit to hospitals making various donations to patients.

According to her, the program was borne out of "deep concern" for the patients most of whom have died due to their inability to afford proper healthcare.

Maureen whose mother has battled diabetes for nearly a decade believes many patients equally die for lack of social care.

Her program therefore is expected to bring hope and inspire others to support indigent patients for a healthier society, she said.

Although her maiden outreach was predominantly within the Bingham University Teaching Hospital in Central Nigeria's Jos, the capital of Plateau State, the Face of Nigerian Models Queen of the Northeast told MKB that she aims to reach out to different hospitals in different states in subsequent editions.

Items donated during the outreach include toiletries and cash among others sourced mainly through contributions from family and friends.
