At least five people were yesterday killed in Central Nigeria when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a group of young boys said to be returning from a festive celebration.

Several others reportedly sustained various degrees of injuries while the attackers disappeared without a trace.

The attack near Rawuru village in Barkin Ladi Local Government, south of Jos the Plateau State capital followed a similar incident on Christmas day at Mafeng Hotel where three people were reportedly killed.

"It's quite unfortunate, but it only means we need to do more to rid the land of the embers of hatred and disunity," said Mr. Istifanus Gyang, a Nigerian House of Reps member who hails from the village of the attack.

Five of the Rawuru attack victims will be given mass burial this morning, MK Reporters learnt.
