The Nigeria Red Cross Society, Sunday elected new officials to govern its affairs for a four year period.

The officials emerged through a keenly contested election held in the night of Saturday, terminating Sunday morning in Utako, Abuja.

The incumbent President of the organization, Chief Akpan Anani was returned for another term, becoming the only official to be reelected.

Plateau based journalist, blogger and Radio Analyst, Mr. Masara Kim was crowned the body's Communication and Advocacy Adviser.

After the election and inauguration of the new exco at about 2am, local time, President of the body, Chief Anani was full of praise for the peaceful conduct of the polls.

He also saluted the sportsmanship displayed by those who contested but lost out in the elections.

"This has only shown that a brighter future awaits the Nigeria Red Cross Society," he said.

The new exco was sworn into office after Council dissolved the tenure of the old officials which officially ends on January 17, 2019.

The decision was taken to prevent frequent travels and spending on logistics for another national executive meeting after the 2018 Annual General Meeting of the Nigeria Red Cross Society which started Friday with the arrival of delegates from the 36 States of the Federation and the federal capital territory.
