The Chairman, Abegyi Housing Cooperative Society of Nigeria, Mr. Emmanuel Auta has said he is determined to provide affordable Housing for average Nigerians.

Affordable Housing he says is possible when a desired market system is created to guarantee constant generation of funds and local production of materials.

Mr. Auta in a press statement, after a Thanksgiving service for Abegyi Nigeria Ltd, Annual General Meeting and inauguration of Board of Trustees of the Abegyi Housing cooperative Society held at the House on the Rock, Jos, Plateau State said affordable Housing is the primary goal of the cooperative.

"This Abegyi Housing cooperative society Ltd business concept is a model which gives opportunity to raise funds through massive involvement of members participating in buying of shares.

"The funds realised from selling of shares is used for building of cooperative villages, settlements and cities.

"On the other hands, the Cooperative also establishes an interest free enterprise that caters for the daily needs of both members and nonmembers of the cooperative."

Mr. Auta noted that a minimum of N10 and maximum of N100 shall be the service charge for any goods or services rendered by the cooperative.

"All enterprises shall be under the umbrella of the cooperative known as Abegyi Housing cooperative store.

"The cost of establishing any cooperative villages, settlements and cities is expected to be recovered through service charges within seven years."

Mr. Auta who also donated food items and cash to widows, missionaries and the less privileged "received" the vision to for the Housing scheme in 1980.

He explained that he started implementing the concept from selling water in Suleja, Niger State where he raised funds to commence Garam Housing project.

Some beneficiaries have already occupied their houses through rent to ownership scheme, he said.

At the Thanksgiving service of the Cooperative, Dignitaries present include Rt. Hon. Joshua Izam Madaki, the Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, and Dr. Jacob Gyang Buba, the Gbong Gwom, Jos among others who commended the initiative as coming at the right time, when average Nigerians are yearning for affordable housing.

They all pledged support for the scheme to succeed for the benefit of citizens.
