Unijos produces only African Researcher in World Surgeons' committee
A Senior lecturer in the University of Jos, Dr. Daniel Kokong is the only African in the recently formed 12-man Research and Scholarship Standing Committee of the International College of Surgeons, officials say.
Dr. Kokong, a Senior Lecturer in the University's College of Health Sciences was appointed by
the World's highest Medical ruling body of Surgeons to serve for two years (2019-2020), Mr. Abdullahi Abdullahi, the Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications, University of Jos said in a statement on Saturday.
The Medical Researcher who hails from Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State was appointed based on his track record and outstanding performance in Medical Research and professional practice, says the statement.
His appointment comes as the university approves promotion of 400 staff.
According to Mr. Abdullahi Abdullahi, the Deputy Registrar, Information and Publications, University of Jos, the promoted staff include 188 Teaching Staff and 212 Non-Teaching Staff.
Among the newly promoted Staff are 23 Professors and 41 Readers whose promotions took effect from 1st October, 2017, the statement says.
Abdullahi said in the statement, "From within the Non-Teaching cadre, Fifty-Two Staff were promoted from Junior Staff ranks to Senior Staff positions out of the 212 that were promoted with effect from 1st October, 2018. This was the outcome of the Institution’s recent promotion exercise as approved by its Appointment and Promotions Committee (Senior Staff) chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Seddi Sebastian Maimako."
