At least one person was Saturday killed in an auto crash involving six election staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC in Plateau State, Central Nigeria.

The INEC adhoc staff according to sources were returning from their duty stations in Maijuju village in Jos East Local Government Area when the accident occurred.

The deceased identified as Mr. Mahanan Christopher reportedly died at the spot while the five others on board survived with varying degrees of injuries.

He was the Assistant election Preciding Officer 1 at at a polling unit in Chere community of Maijuju village.

The accident which occurred along Fobur - Jos road was believed to have been caused by overspending.

No official report has however been received on the actual cause of the crash but the illfated vehicle is thought to be a taxi hired by officials for the movement of staff and logistics during the polls.

Meanwhile, a Member of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Mr. Ezekiel Afon has died while celebrating his reelection.

Mr. Afon, the Member representing Pengana, Bassa constituency in the Parliament yesterday slumped and died while attending to guests shortly after being declared winner of the Assembly polls held on Saturday, reports say.

His demise has created a fresh vacancy that must be filled through rerun elections in the constituency, officials say.
