The Vice Chancellor Plateau State University Bokkos Professor Yohana Izam has been awarded 'Living Hero' in Academics, and best performing State Vice Chancellor from the Citizens Right and Leadership Awareness Initiative in collaboration with Oduduwa Watch News Online in the Plateau State Living Hero Award 2019.

According to the organisers, the selection of Professor Izam was due to his selfless service and the provision of quality leadership to the State owned University.

Similarly, his dogged disposition on standardization and the placement of the institution amongst "emerging competitive brands" in Nigeria's tertiary education system.

The VC who was represented by the Dean, Students Affairs of the University Dr. Jurji Gomos said the award has encouraged him to keep contributing to the development of the education sector.

He equally pledged to ensure that Plateau State University is rated among the best Universities in the country.

With the accreditation of its courses by the National Universities Commission (NUC), the institution according to the Don is poised for increased academic excellence.

“Plateau State University has now become an important asset, a centre of academic excellence and research incubation not only to the state and its people, but also to the entire nation.

"Basically, the strategic location of the university for manpower development and the critical sectors of the economy can only come about as a result of the right support from the state university in terms of projects and community activities.

“We are also talking about possibility of new programmes such as agriculture and ICT incubator, which will impact positively on our agrarian communities across the state. So, the university is poised to increase the number of academic programmes and platforms for innovations," he said.
