The Plateau Social Media Award organizers have picked physically Ishaku Clinton, a Central Nigerian volunteer Traffic Warder for a special Community Service award.

Mr. Clinton according to officials has been controlling traffic without pay since 2010.

He is cripple on one leg and uses crouches to walk.

The honour is meant to encourage him and discourage street begging by physically challenged persons, officials say.

The award organizers are also hoping to challenge government through the honour to empower the volunteer Traffic man.

"Clinton said Governor Simon Bako Lalong has given him Money twice but he needs to be given a platform to catch the fish himself and not to be given the fish to enable him help himself and others around him," a statement by the Chairman of the organizing team, Alfred Makut says.

Meanwhile, nominees for the award have emerged after over two weeks of online public voting.

Voting for the nominees will commence from 25th April to 30th May, 2019, an official statement says.

An online voting platform will be created for the exercise and the link made public, the statement by the organizing team Chairman, Mr. Makut says.

The award ceremony fixed for 7th July at Mees Palace, Rayfiled Jos will be preceded by a public Lecture on 5th, July 2019 at Azi Nyako Youth center, Jos, the statement says.
