Autopsy results obtained from Central Nigeria's Jos University Teaching Hospital, JUTH have shown that the female University student found dead in hostel last week was likely murdered.

Official sources say from the results, the student, Miss Mercy Naan was probably strangulated.

Rumours had earlier suggested that the 200 Level Marketing student of the University of Jos, Plateau State took her own life after a quarrel with her 'boyfriend', who was thought to be Mr. Shitnaan Maimako, son to Prof. Sebastian Maimako, the University of Jos Vice Chancellor.

Mr. Maimako who committed suicide few hours after news of Miss Naan broke was alleged to have consumed poisonous insecticide "in solidarity" with his supposed girlfriend.

Police sources however say the two cases are not connected.

Miss Naan, a 19-year-old native of Kogi state was said to be exclusively dating a Jos-based student of Akwa Ibom State University in Nigeria's South South.

The two reportedly had quarels shortly before her demise over some money he was said to have borrowed from her schoolfee for sports betting but couldn't pay back.

The man (details withheld), 23 who originally hails from the Niger Delta region is now in Police custody undergoing interrogation.

The deceased student was however buried, Saturday in Jos after the completion of medical examination on her corpse.

Her parents who appear to still be broken and unstable over the case have yet to make any comments.

The couple however seems to be determined to secure justice on the murder of their daughter.
